I photographed Jessica’s wedding a few years ago (you can see her wedding here) and I was excited to be her Utah newborn photographer for her new little bundle! I’m posting just a few images for now, I have many more to share!

Dave and Coleen | Utah Family Photography January 24, 2013
Posted by Emily in : Families , add a commentLook who I got to see a few months ago! Two of our favorite friends from medical school, Dave and Coleen! They are both practicing family physicians at a clinic in Idaho now, but they were in Utah for a day or so with just enough time to squeeze in a Utah family photography session. It was fun to see them, and Coleen’s mom, Clover, who I missed seeing on Saba (the little island in the Caribbean we all used to live on during medical school) this summer when I photographed the “Royal Wedding.”

This is my cousin, Sharon, and her family. We shot this on our great grandfather’s property in Midway. It was cold (obviously) but I work fast in cold conditions. :) Aren’t my cousins good looking? :)

Can’t wait to share their bridal session and their wedding day images! You can see their engagement session here.
They are now a family of four little girls who are aged two to six! Aren’t they adorable? What a fun new family! Congrats guys!

Baby Ryder | Utah Newborn Photography February 29, 2012
Posted by Emily in : Families, New Born Sessions , 2commentsThis is baby Ryder and he was such a sweetheart for his newborn photography session! Honestly, you never know how long a newborn session will take . . . it can take anywhere from 30 minutes (that has only happened one time and it was with this shoot) to four hours depending on how the baby responds. Generally, I spend between two and three hours at the baby’s home with their parents. We do a lot of talking and waiting around if the baby is fussy, and when the baby sleeps or is content, we shoot away!
Ryder was a doll. I don’t think he even knows how to cry to be honest. He was born three weeks early, but is no lightweight. We shot these when he was eight days old. (The best time to shoot newborns is in the first two weeks of life, so this was perfect timing.)

This Utah Photography session was so much fun! They are such a fun family! You might recognize them from their family photography shoot last summer. It was great to see them again and I had just as much fun during this shoot as I did last year. Brenda contacted me and asked if I could photograph her family one more time before they moved from Idaho to Oklahoma. So, Wonder Woman in the picture here, got her family all packed up, drove from Idaho to Utah right before Christmas, and we got in a family photo session just in time before their long drive to Oklahoma.
I love returning clients. I have mentioned that before, right?

Posted by Emily in : Families , 1 comment so farUtah family photography has a beautiful new addition! I have been shooting so many couples lately for weddings, bridals, and engagement sessions, it has been fun to sneak in a few family sessions as well.
I love these people. Not only are they some of the funnest people I know, but they all photograph like a super model family. You may recognize them from their Utah family photography shoot a couple years ago. You can see that session here, and Amber’s personal session with me here. Did mention I met Amber online about three years ago? Yes. I love the internet! We bonded over screaming babies, and just like that, we became fast friends.

They were able to get their entire family together just after Christmas, so it was fun to see them over the holidays.
Christmas Pictures 2011! December 23, 2011
Posted by Emily in : Families , add a commentOur ward planned a massive Christmas party this year with the theme, “Polar Express.” I was asked a few months ago if I would create a backdrop and take pictures of every family in the ward with Santa. I asked my friend Sharon to help me decorate the set, and we came up with this:

I provided my white seamless backdrop, and she provided trees, ornaments, and snow flakes. I was hoping you could see the snowflakes a little better, but they blend in a bit. Note to self: use silver snowflakes next time to make them stand out! As a random side note, I rented the Nikon 17-35 lens for this shoot. I was skeptical to use a “zoom” lens with such a shoot zoom, but WOW. Let me tell you, that 17 mm angle is just the perfect wide angle to capture the scene without distorting angles. I was very happy with the lens and I’ve added it to my “wish” list. (No biggie, it’s only a $2,000 lens. Maybe Santa will remember I want that for Christmas? Hopefully?)

This is a picture of my kids, (in the blue and pink) and my brother’s kids. I just adore this picture of my kids and their little cousins!

For anyone who is interested in this light set up: I use a six foot octobox to camera left with a strobe, a bare bulb strobe to camera right which I bounced off the ceiling, and two speed lights (Nikon SB900 lights) on the sides of the images near the back of the backdrop to light up the back corners of the backdrop. I don’t use four light set ups that often, but every once in a while, I do need more than two or three lights to achieved the right look.
I created a video with all the pictures I took at the party. It was fun working with two of my favorite assistants: Luone (who made everyone smile!) and Katherine (who makes the BEST elf ever!)
Merry Christmas everyone!
